Aims and Scope

With 2.5 million scientific articles per annum, neither information nor access to information is a limiting factor so much as critical analysis of scientific content. By providing readers with clear access to relevant advances of disciplines other than their own, SAPIENS wishes to influence thinking in core scientific areas while creating and strengthening links to other disciplines.

SAPIENS publishes critical state of the art (Surveys, Analyses, Introductions) and evidence-based opinions (Perspectives, Views, Book Reviews). Given the breadth of our readership, particular attention is devoted to present concepts, methods and their limits by featuring:

  • what is known;
  • what is unclear/unknown (knowledge boundaries);
  • an explanation of the paradigm/methodology used;
  • a clear distinction between hypotheses, facts and conclusions.

SAPIENS publishes articles that link environment and social issues in realms such as development, urbanization, health, values, management, decision making, security, equity, sustainability, etc.

Examples:

  • Economic dimensions of the environment;
  • Health and the environment;
  • Environmental change and lifestyles;
  • Urban growth and resource management;
  • Ecotechnology.
